Michael "Mike" Johnson loves the game of baseball. He’s the father of two dedicated athletes. He understands the power of sports to enrich our lives, and he’s found a unique way to help keep people playing better.

Mike has turned a hobby into a business with “Magic Mike’s Glove Shop.” He restores baseball and softball gloves, from repairing and re-lacing to breaking them in.  He customizes gloves, too, with clients at all levels of the sport, from high school to college to the major leagues. A good quality leather glove is an investment, no matter whether you are playing for your school team or in the pros.

Check out the before-and-after photos. We have become too used to throwing things away and buying new. But a great glove becomes an extension of the player’s arm. Mike’s Facebook is full of photos of happy kids wearing their restored gloves. Youth sports can help kids become better students and teammates. It lays a foundation for a solid future and helps kids dream bigger.

What about athletes whose best days on the field are in the past, though? Our dreams matter too, even when we look to the past. What about your old glove sitting on a shelf or tucked away in a box in the attic? Some of Mike’s clients have sent him gloves for decades past, and he’s brought them back to their former glory. Maybe that glove will be worn by a son or daughter or even a grandchild. Perhaps it will be placed on a display stand and remind the owner of some of the best days of their life. Maybe it will do both.
